If you want to be a writer, you must do two things above all others: read a lot and write a lot. – Stephen King
If you are anything like me, there are probably times that you don’t feel like writing even though you know that you should be writing.
So, today I have list have things that you can do to avoid writing, now next time you don’t want to write there won’t be any scrabbling around for an excuse. There will be a nice list of excuses waiting for you.
Make some tea
Because writing is always easier when you have tea.
Wash the dishes
There almost always seems like there are dishes to be washed. I guess that is probably because most people eat several times a day.
Read a book about writing
Because that will possibly give you the motivation that you have been waiting for!
And it could help you improve your writing.
Find out the main character’s cousin’s wife’s brother’s son’s name
Knowing all of the details for your story is important. Even if you don’t include them in the actual book, it will make the book seem more complex and detailed.
Besides readers love when authors go off on five page tangents about random things that are not going to be at all important to the actual story.
Wait until you feel like writing
If you don’t feel like writing then what is the point of writing?
Watch a video on Youtube
Because there are millions of videos there. And once you start you may be able to spend the rest of the time that you have to write doing that instead.
Find the perfect music to listen to while you write
That way you will have the right mood for your scene. If you listen to music while you write, you want to make sure that you are not listening to super happy music while writing the hero’s best friend’s death.
Check your email
There’s a good chance that there are some important emails that have arrived since you last checked it five minutes ago.
Do your homework
If you are a student that is. If you are a student there almost always seems like there is at least one school related thing that needs to be done.
Find a quote from a famous author to give you the motivation that you need to start writing
Quotes are always a good thing.
Read someone’s blog
That way you can give the person another reader and you might get some good ideas.
It really is an ideal excuse!
Do research for your book
There’s always something that needs to be researched for your book.
A few suggestions to get you started: how to treat arrow wounds, best chicken soup recipe, or popular dances in the 1800s.

I hope that this will give you some ideas of excuses to avoid writing. Do you have any that you find work well?
Read over your own book and marvel/despair at what you’ve done thus far… 🙂
