On the second day of Christmas my true love gave to me,
Two turtle doves and a partridge in a pear tree.
– Twelve Days of Christmas

So, here is day 2 of the twelve days of Christmas and I am super excited to be doing a Twelve days of Christmas book tag!

This tag was started by The Fantastic Book Dragon.  And I stole it from M.L. Davis because it looked like fun, and how could I not do it when I am doing the twelve days of Christmas?

So, let’s get started!

On the first day of Christmas, my true love sent to me: a partridge in a pear tree….

…The partridge stood alone in the pear tree. What is your favorite stand alone?

This isn’t easy, I tend to prefer to read series.

However, The Remarkable Journey of Prince Jen by Lloyd Alexander is absolutely amazing, and I feel like it is super underrated.

On the second day of Christmas, my true love sent to me: two turtle doves….

…Love is in the air! Who is your one true pairing?

This is difficult because there are so many different cute fictional couples.

But since I have to decide on one I’m going with Anne Elliot and Captain Wentworth.

I know, this surprised even me, but it really is a perfect couple.

On the third day of Christmas, my true love sent to me: Three French Hens…

…In the spirit of threes, what is the best trilogy you have read?

Lord of the Rings. Is there any question that this is the most amazing trilogy?

I’m reading it right now, so that is kind of making me extra passionate about it. It is just so amazing!

On the fourth day of Christmas, my true love sent to me: four calling birds…

…Since series usually consist of four or more books, what is your favorite series?

Probably Harry Potter, I mean, besides Lord of the Rings. Lord of the Rings is better, but Harry Potter comes second.

On the fifth day of Christmas, my true love sent to me: five golden rings…

…One ring to rule them all! Who is your Favorite Villain/Antagonist?

Oh… villains… They have no idea how much trouble they are causing me at this moment because of this question. I hope they are happy.

I’m not big on villains. They rarely have any of the traits that I admire in characters, but I guess that I have to choose someone.

The only named villain that I can think of right now is Loki, and the only reason for that is that he tends to be clever. But I really don’t like him because he is so predictable. He is going betray them – again.

Moriarty of the BBC Sherlock is also a good villain – if there can be any such thing.

I guess I like the villains who are actually clever, but they are not honorable and it is honor that really makes me remember and like a character.

On the sixth day of Christmas, my true love sent to me: six geese a laying…

…Creation is a beautiful thing. What is your favorite world/world-building?

I love Middle Earth. The Shire is so beautiful and peaceful. Then there are all the other beautiful, wild, even terrifying places.

And each of the places have a history.

I love how detailed Middle Earth is.

On the seventh day of Christmas, my true love sent to me: seven swans a swimming…

…Who needs seven swans when all it takes is one good animal sidekick? Who’s your favorite animal sidekick?

Crookshanks from Harry Potter. I know animal sidekicks should talk, but I feel like Crookshanks is an exception.

He is such a clever cat. I wish that he played a bigger role…

On the eighth day of Christmas, my true love sent to me: eight maids a milking…

…Milk is so 18th century. Which book or series takes beverages/food to a whole new level?

I have to say Harry Potter. Or possibly Narnia…

Actually it’s Narnia. I’m thinking of the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe when the children eat with the Beavers. Or in Prince Caspian with the grapes… I am still looking for grapes like those ones.

On the ninth day of Christmas my true love sent to me: nine ladies dancing….

…Dancing is just one skill of a Lady! Who is your favorite kickass female lead?

Marty Davis from Love Comes Softly – I am not sure why I choose her.

But she faced so many hardships and she came through them a better stronger woman.

On the tenth day of Christmas my true love sent to me: ten lords a leaping…

…How about your favorite leading lad?

Right now it is probably Kaladin from the Stormlight Archives.

He’s nothing if not honorable.

On the eleventh day of Christmas my true love sent to me: eleven pipers piping…

…What is your favorite book or bookish thing with musical influence? (It can be about music, reference music a lot etc.)

Off the top of my mind I have to say that I really like how there is music for the King Raven series. It was actually commissioned by the author and I feel like it fits the books well.

…On the twelfth day of Christmas my true love sent to me: 12 drummers drumming.

…Drum roll please…what is your favorite read of this year?

I have to choose one?

Trust me when I say that I have had to do quite a few difficult things today, but this is probably the worst.

I guess of the books that I read for the first time this year I will choose the Stormlight Archive.

Well, that brings us to the end of this. Merry Christmas!

What was your favorite book that you read this year?
