ISTJ At Hogwarts

There lived four wizards of renown,
Whose names are still well known:
Bold Gryffindor, from wild moor,
Fair Ravenclaw, from glen,
Sweet Hufflepuff, from valley broad,
Shrewd Slytherin, from fen.
They shared a wish, a hope, a dream,
They hatched a daring plan
To educate young sorcerers
Thus Hogwarts School began.
Now each of these four founders
Formed their own house, for each
Did value different virtues.

People tend to think that a Myers-Briggs type is always going to act a certain way, but this is not the case.

Each person even if they have the same Myers-Briggs type acts differently.

Each ISTJ acts differently.

Just because two people have the same Myers-Briggs personality type does not mean that they are going to act the same way. Each person is unique. They’ve had unique experiences.

Today I want to talk about how an ISTJ might act in the different Hogwarts houses. This is a good way to see just how different they can act even while having the same personality type. If you want to go over how ISTJs act here is a post that I wrote on that.

Also, if you want to find out your Myers-Briggs personality type, this test is very accurate and free. Then if you want to find out your Hogwarts house, here is one that I usually get the same answer on.

Now that we’ve gone over all of that let’s look at just a few of the different ways an ISTJ might act.

You might belong in Hufflepuff,
Where they are just and loyal,
Those patient Hufflepuffs are true,
And unafraid of toil.
– J.K. Rowlings, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone

An ISTJ in Hufflepuff is loyal and hardworking. There is just about no one better to have your back.

They tend to see things in a very black and white way. Either something is good or it is bad; there is rarely an in between. The ISTJ tries to do what is right.

They like to have friends, but they do not have many. The friends that they do have they are very close to.

The ISTJ might be on the Quidditch team. If they are it seems likely that they would be a Chaser.

Doing what they are supposed to is very important to the ISTJ, so they make a real effort to get their homework done in time even when they don’t like it. They like learning things that will help them in the real world.

Or yet in wise old Ravenclaw,
if you’ve a ready mind,
Where those of wit and learning,
Will always find their kind.
– J.K. Rowlings, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone

The ISTJ in Ravenclaw loves to learn, but they have a slightly different learning style preferring to focus more on the practical than the philosophical. This tends to give them a different perspective than some of the other Ravenclaws which interests both of them as it gives them a chance to look at things in more ways.

The ISTJ holds themself to a very high standard, if they make a promise they will keep it no matter what the cost. They hold all those around them to this same standard and are disappointed when others don’t follow their standard.

They don’t have a lot of friends, but the ones that they do have they are very close to.

Usually they are not on the Quidditch team. But if for some reason they were they would probably be a Chaser.

They enjoy school and learning new things. However, they sometimes find it frustrating when they don’t find what they are learning interesting or useful.

Or perhaps in Slytherin,
You’ll make your real friends,
These cunning folks use any means
To achieve their ends.
– J.K. Rowlings, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone

An ISTJ in Slytherin is likely to come from a very old wizarding family.

They have a strict sense of right and wrong which over shadows everything that they do. They tend to be blunt, not worried about hurting others’ feelings.

They have a few friends, mainly purebloods, mainly in Slytherin. When they are choosing friends they tend to be friends with people who the same values as they do.

They are often on the Quidditch team. They often play as either the Keeper or a Chaser.

Schoolwork is important because to do the things that they want to do they have to learn more. They don’t want the fact that they haven’t learned something, even if they hate that, to stand in the way of their ambitions.

You might belong in Gryffindor,
Where dwell the brave at heart,
Their daring, nerve, and chivalry,
Set Gryffindors apart
– J.K. Rowlings, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone

An ISTJ in Gryffindor would be the quiet, sensible one.

They would have a strict sense of right and wrong. They would try to protect those that needed to be protected.

They would have a large circle of friends, but only a few that they are really close to.

Some of them would enjoy Quidditch, but most of them would prefer to watch it than to actually play it. If they did end up playing it they would probably be the Keeper.

They would just about always be on top of their schoolwork, although they would often find it boring and useless.

So, that is some of the ways that an ISTJ might act. There are a lot more, of course, and even within the different Hogwarts houses there would be a lot more variation.

But I hope that this gives you a bit more of an idea of how differently an ISTJ can act. I know that it has done that for me.

If you have any ideas about how an ISTJ might act in any of the Hogwarts houses, I would love to hear about it in the comments!
