INTJ At Hogwarts

There lived four wizards of renown,
Whose names are still well known:
Bold Gryffindor, from wild moor,
Fair Ravenclaw, from glen,
Sweet Hufflepuff, from valley broad,
Shrewd Slytherin, from fen.
They shared a wish, a hope, a dream,
They hatched a daring plan
To educate young sorcerers
Thus Hogwarts School began.
Now each of these four founders
Formed their own house, for each
Did value different virtues.
-J.K. Rowlings, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire

Personality is an interesting thing. There is so many different aspects of personality that can be explored. There are so many theories about personality and none of them can show everything.

Today I want to share with you one part of personality. I want to share with you about how an INTJ might act in the different Hogwarts houses. It’s just a small part of the personality, but I find it interesting so you get to learn lots about it.

I’m just going to be talking about how an INTJ acts as relates to how they might behave in different Hogwarts houses, so if you need a refresher on how they act in general here is a post that I wrote on that a little while back.

Also, if you want to find out your Myers-Briggs personality type, this test is very accurate and free. Then if you want to find out your Hogwarts house, here is one that I usually get the same answer on.

Now I think that that is everything that we needed to go through before we can jump into exploring how an INTJ might act at Hogwarts.

You might belong in Hufflepuff,
Where they are just and loyal,
Those patient Hufflepuffs are true,
And unafraid of toil.
– J.K. Rowlings, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone

I feel like an INTJ in Hufflepuff would be fairly rare, but that is partially because when we think of a Hufflepuff we tend to think of someone that is very kind and nice. It can be a bit harder to think of an INTJ this way. So, overall, it is unlikely for an INTJ to be a Hufflepuff, but not impossible.

An INTJ in Hufflepuff would be kind, but reserved. They would have few friends, but those few they would be very close to. They would end up helping a lot of the other Hufflepuffs with their studies, they would do a good job with it, although sometimes they would be a bit impatient with the person that they are helping.

They would rarely join the Quidditch team, although there is always a chance that they might.

The INTJ would sometimes have a difficult time following the rules, but it would be rare for them to be caught.

They would love learning things, and would often know even more than they need to. They might sometimes find the homework boring, but they might just find a way to make it more interesting.

Or yet in wise old Ravenclaw,
if you’ve a ready mind,
Where those of wit and learning,
Will always find their kind.
– J.K. Rowlings, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone

INTJs love to learn. Ravenclaws love to learn. This is probably the house that INTJs are most likely to end up in.

They would be quiet and reserved, not speaking unless they actually had something to say. They would have few friends, and those friends would mainly be other Ravenclaws. The INTJ would not go out of their way to find friends.

If they don’t see a reason for a rule they will not want to obey it. Here the INTJ might obey it even if they don’t agree with it because they don’t have the time to deal with getting into trouble.

Quidditch might seem like a waste of time to the INTJ, but there is always a chance that they would enjoy it and be on the Quidditch team.

They would love learning and would be ahead in all of their classes. Homework might seem a bit boring, but there was always the chance that they would learn something new so they would do it.

Or perhaps in Slytherin,
You’ll make your real friends,
These cunning folks use any means
To achieve their ends.
– J.K. Rowlings, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone

This is another house that it seems likely that INTJs would be in.

They would have few friends, and even fewer that they actually feel close to. The INTJ would sometimes feel that they are different than those around them. They don’t care which house their friends are from though as long as they are interesting.

The INTJ will sometimes play Quidditch. Usually as the Seeker.

They don’t mind breaking rules. The INTJ feels that if there does not seem to be a good reason for that rule to be in place that is a perfectly good reason to not follow that rule.

INTJs love to learn things, but sometimes they find the school boring. Homework in particular.

You might belong in Gryffindor,
Where dwell the brave at heart,
Their daring, nerve, and chivalry,
Set Gryffindors apart
– J.K. Rowlings, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone

The INTJ in Gryffindor would not be common, but then INTJs are not a very common Myers-Briggs personality type.

The INTJ would be quiet and reserved. They would have more enemies than they would have friends. However they would not have many that they would consider friends, the friends that they did have though they would be very close to.

They would break rules quite a bit, mainly because they don’t feel like the rule really has any reason. They would also explore the castle and the Forbidden forest because they are curious, so curiosity would be another reason that they would break rules.

It seems unlikely that they would play Quidditch, but if they did they would most likely be a Seeker.

They would like learning and want to learn everything that they could, but they would often find the assignments and homework boring and too easy. And there would be times when they would ignore their homework to work on things that they deem more important and interesting.

So, that is how I think an INTJ might act in each of the Hogwarts houses. Doing this has really made me learn quite a bit more about them.

If you have any ideas about how an INTJ might act in any of the Hogwarts houses, I’d love to hear about it in the comments! I know that there are things that I’ve missed in talking about them.

    • I’m an INFJ and I’m either a Gryffindor or a Ravenclaw depending on the test. This was a hard post for me because it felt like INTJs are going to act about the same whatever the situation, but I’m glad you found it interesting.

      • What I’m trying to do with these posts is show that MBTI does not put people into a box. I’m trying to show that each person is different and unique even if they have the same personality type. I know that what I’m doing is not completely accurate since each person is different, but I’m hoping that it will help people stop assuming that using MBTI will put someone in a box.

  1. I’m surprised anyone thinks MBTI is a box–I was under the impression that it’s essentially a description, and that it changes over time as you change. (The MBTI is more what you call guidelines, than actual rules ;)) But since people do have that perception of it, posts like this are a good idea.

    • I find it surprising that people consider it a box as well, but since they do I want to do what I can to help break that assumption. I think that some of these people are just not particularly familiar with the MBTI and that is why they think that. I agree with you on the MBTI being a guideline.

    • Even though INTJs can fit into any of the houses, I feel like Ravenclaw is the most likely one for them. I’m an INFJ, who is either in Ravenclaw or Gryffindor. Luna and Neville do seem like they would be good people to be friends with.

  2. I am an INTJ and I usually test Ravenclaw when I take internet tests; however, every time I have taken the test on the official website I test Griffendoor. I think that I would fit into either of these houses. I also think that the least likely house for me to be a part of would be Hufflepuff.

    • That is interesting. It is interesting how even though Hogwarts houses are supposed to be pretty clear cut for the wizards, it really is not in the real world. I’m an INFJ and when I take online tests, even the official website, I have gotten different houses just about every time. I’m probably a Ravenclaw…
