ESTP At Hogwarts

There lived four wizards of renown,
Whose names are still well known:
Bold Gryffindor, from wild moor,
Fair Ravenclaw, from glen,
Sweet Hufflepuff, from valley broad,
Shrewd Slytherin, from fen.
They shared a wish, a hope, a dream,
They hatched a daring plan
To educate young sorcerers
Thus Hogwarts School began.
Now each of these four founders
Formed their own house, for each
Did value different virtues.
-J.K. Rowlings, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire

I just finished reading the last Harry Potter, so I’m excited to write this.

This is where I try to imagine how a certain Myers-Briggs personality type might act in each of the different Hogwarts Houses.

I’m just going to be talking about how an ESTP might act in each of the houses, so if you need a refresher on how ESTPs act in general here is a post I wrote on that.

Also, if you want to find out your Myers-Briggs personality type, this test is very accurate and free. Then if you want to find out your Hogwarts house, here is one that I usually get the same answer on.

Now without further ado, let’s get started!

You might belong in Hufflepuff,
Where they are just and loyal,
Those patient Hufflepuffs are true,
And unafraid of toil.
– J.K. Rowlings, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone

ESTPs want to enjoy life and the moment to the fullest. They want to have adventures and try new things. This means that they would definitely not be a stereotypical Hufflepuff.

This does not mean that they would not do well in this House though.

They would be the ones pulling the others into adventures. They would want to be at the center of things. They would have a lot of friends, although their bluntness would mean that they also have quite a few enemies. In many ways they are a leader.

It seems likely that they would be on the Quidditch team. I’m not sure what position that they would play though.

The ESTP usually does their homework, but sometimes there are more interesting, more important things to be done, so the homework gets forgotten.

Also among the Hufflepuffs they are probably one of the most likely ones to get themselves into trouble, not because they are being bad, but simply because they wanted to have an adventure.

Or yet in wise old Ravenclaw,
if you’ve a ready mind,
Where those of wit and learning,
Will always find their kind.
– J.K. Rowlings, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone

In Ravenclaw too the ESTP would be a bit of anomaly. They are ones who would rush into things without thinking, in this house they tend to have a bit more self-control in this respect.

That does not mean that they do not want to have adventure and live life to its fullest though. They value every minute.

They have lots of friends, many of whom are Gryffindors. They enjoy having educated debates with their friends and are not afraid to tell them if they think they are wrong.

They enjoy exploring the castle wanting to know everything that there is to know about it.

It seems likely that they would be on the Quidditch team.

Learning things would be important to them. They would want to learn everything that they can, although the theory part of things they might find rather boring. They would prefer the doing like casting spells and making potions rather than learning about how to do it.

Or perhaps in Slytherin,
You’ll make your real friends,
These cunning folks use any means
To achieve their ends.
– J.K. Rowlings, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone

The ESTP in Slytherin would be adventurous and daring willing to jump into anything. Getting into fights more often then those around them would like.

They would have lots of friends and lots of enemies. They would be themselves no matter how it made others view them.

They would purposely get themselves into dangerous situations just for the thrill, but then they would almost always be able to get themselves out of them.

The ESTP might be on the Quidditch team. Or they might be in other clubs. They might have even founded those clubs.

They would enjoy learning things, but they would want them to have a practical purpose. They would not enjoy the theory part or the homework.

You might belong in Gryffindor,
Where dwell the brave at heart,
Their daring, nerve, and chivalry,
Set Gryffindors apart
– J.K. Rowlings, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone

Gryffindor is the most likely house for an ESTP to be in.

They are adventurous and bold. They want to live life and have fun while doing so. They are not afraid to be unconventional.

They would have lots of friends many of whom would also enjoy adventures, although some of them would be there to make sure that the ESTP did not go too far. They would also have a fair amount of enemies because of their bluntness and their disregard for the rules.

They might be on the Quidditch team. Even they were not on the Quidditch team it seems likely that they would enjoy flying on a broomstick.

They would enjoy learning spells and potions and such, but they would not care as much for the theories. It seems unlikely that they would care for Divination at all, and probably would not even take it. They would not really like homework, but they would usually get it done.

That brings us to the end of talking about the ESTP at Hogwarts. I have learned quite a bit more about them from writing this. It made me think about them in a new way which is always interesting.

If you have any more ideas about how you think that an ESTP would act in the different Hogwarts houses I’d love to hear about it in the comments!
