Writing is an exploration. You start from nothing and learn as you go. – E.L. Doctorow
The dictionary says that writing is: ‘the activity or skill of marking coherent words on paper and composing text’ or ‘written work, especially with regard to its style or quality.’
But how much does that really tell us about writing?
Not much.
It gives us words that tell us the ‘how’ of writing, but not the essence. In these dry words the spirit of writing is missing, it just tells what writing looks like.
I would like to share with you what writing is to me.
Writing is the act of putting pen to paper and forming perfect letters that form words and those words go on to form sentences.
Writing is the art of putting words together into a sentence that makes sense.
Writing is the struggle that makes one want to throw whatever is at nearest at hand at the wall.
Writing is something that one has to work on just about every day and yet one never feels like it is quite as good as it could be.
Writing is an important
Writing is a way of life. Almost as necessary as breathing, although, we did survive without it for quite a while. However, we have always had stories which is what I really mean about the writing here.
Writing is a way of sharing one’s thoughts and dreams with others.
So that is what I think about writing, but there really is so much more to it. It is difficult to put the essence of writing into words.
What is writing to you?
