ENFP At Hogwarts

There lived four wizards of renown,
Whose names are still well known:
Bold Gryffindor, from wild moor,
Fair Ravenclaw, from glen,
Sweet Hufflepuff, from valley broad,
Shrewd Slytherin, from fen.
They shared a wish, a hope, a dream,
They hatched a daring plan
To educate young sorcerers
Thus Hogwarts School began.
Now each of these four founders
Formed their own house, for each
Did value different virtues.
-J.K. Rowlings, Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire

Today we are starting on a new exploration of the Myers-Briggs personality type theory. I’m actually really excited about this. I’ve been thinking about it for a while now, but I wanted to finish writing about the Enneagram types first.

So, before we actually talk about how ENFPs would act in each house, I’d like to explain a bit about what I want to do with this. There are a lot of posts about the most likely house for each personality type to be, so, I am not going to do that. Instead this is going to be a bit more… storylike as I share how I think that ENFPs would act in each of the different Hogwart houses.

One last thing before I start, if you are not already somewhat familiar with the ENFP personality this might be a bit harder to follow. If you want to go over the ENFP personality type before you read this, here is a link to a blog post that I wrote on them: ENFP.

You might belong in Hufflepuff,
Where they are just and loyal,
Those patient Hufflepuffs are true,
And unafraid of toil.
– J.K. Rowlings, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone

As a Hufflepuff the ENFP would be liked and popular. They would have a large group of friends, but they might have some difficulty in having friends that they would actually be able to tell anything to. However, they would be people that others would have an easy time confiding in.

ENFPs love people and being with people, but at the same time they are fiercely independent. I feel like this would be particularly obvious as a Hufflepuff since Hufflepuffs tend to be known for their loyalty.

Or yet in wise old Ravenclaw,
if you’ve a ready mind,
Where those of wit and learning,
Will always find their kind.
– J.K. Rowlings, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone

Among among the Ravenclaws the ENFP might end up being a leader even if they don’t want to. Since Ravenclaws, I think, tend to be more introverted an extroverted Ravenclaw would be someone who stood out.

They would be the ones who would gather their friends for study parties. They would probably be the ones who surprised their Quidditch team with parties in their Common room afterwards.

Or perhaps in Slytherin,
You’ll make your real friends,
These cunning folks use any means
To achieve their ends.
– J.K. Rowlings, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone

When I was first thinking about this post, I was having a difficult time imagining an ENFP as a Slytherin, but then I remembered that under certain circumstances ENFPs can be quite manipulative.

So, I’m imagining that a Slytherin ENFP would be popular and even people who are not in Slytherin would like them, but under their charming exterior they would be manipulating those around them. But no one would ever realize that they were being manipulated.

Also, ENFPs are independent; they will bend the rules when they feel that rule bending is necessary.

You might belong in Gryffindor,
Where dwell the brave at heart,
Their daring, nerve, and chivalry,
Set Gryffindors apart
– J.K. Rowlings, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone

The ENFP Gryffindor would be liked and admired by most of their peers. The teachers, on the other hand, might have some trouble with the ENFP following the rules, but secretly they rather like them too.

The ENFP would be a bit on the rebellious side, but would be so fun to be around.

I hope that this has given you an idea about how ENFPs would behave in the different houses. I had a lot of fun writing this, and I’m already looking forward to doing next week’s!

Do you have anything to add about how ENFPs would act in each of the Hogwart houses? I’d be interested to hear about it in the comments!

  1. This post starts out by being awesome merely because it includes Harry Potter! I mean, awesome taste for the win!

On a less silly note, personalities, psychology, why people think the way they think, why people might act the way they act, it’s all fascinating to me. To take something so fascinating and apply it to Harry Potter, which is just awesome, means this post is not only interesting, but creative and fantastic all in one. Thank you so much for sharing it with us!
