ENTP – The Debater

Just because something is traditional is no reason to do it, of course. Piracy, for example, is a tradition that has been carried on for hundreds of years, but that doesn’t mean we should all attack ships and steal their gold.
                                                         –Lemony Snicket

The Debater is a good name for this Myers-Briggs Personality type the ENTP, which is sometimes called the Introverted Extrovert.

The letters that make up the ENTP’s personality type are as follows: E which is for Extrovert this means that they enjoy being with other people. Then come N which is for iNtuitive and means that they prefer to look at the big picture. After that come T which stands for Thinker and means that they would rather be logical. Lastly comes, P which stands for Perciever this means that they would rather not plan ahead.

Now that we know exactly what each of the letters mean, we can talk about the ENTP as a whole.

ENTPs enjoy debating other people, actually, I am not sure if they like to debate or they are just trying to talk and have very strong opinions (probably depends on the person and situation). They may also debate just to try to challenge the people around them to think in a new way.

ENTPs don’t like doing things in a conventional way just because that is the way that it has always been done. In fact, if you try to get an ENTP to do something by using this argument they are probably going to do it a different way just to do it a different way.

They tend to be open-minded to new ideas. They listen to them fairly willingly, but that does not mean that they will accept them, only that they will be considered.

ENTPs like coming up with ideas and brainstorming things. They can get caught up in an idea quite easily if it interests them. Don’t tell an ENTP that something is impossible that just means that they will try even harder to find a way to accomplish it. Although they like to come up with ideas, they rarely finish through with them.

Even though, the ENTP enjoys coming up with new ideas and being creative, they are also very logical. They can usually make their arguments make sense.

ENTPs don’t like having other people having authority over them. They will go out of their way to probe that that person does not have authority over them.

Just like with every other personality type, ENTPs have a dark side.

The first thing that I would like to point out about ENTP dark side, is that ENTPs are less likely to have strict ethical standing, so that can definitely lead to them acting dark.

When ENTPs get stressed this leads them to obsess over the little details and completely ignore the big picture.

Hopefully you now have a better understanding of the ENTP personality type. If not knowing some people and characters who do have this personality type may help. Here they are:
